Episode Summary

Wild Bill found hashing in 1984 while installing a radar system at Malaysia’s Butterworth Air Base. A secretary cautiously pointed the serious runner toward Penang’s men’s and mixed hashes, whose enthusiastic jungle trails took him into places he had hesitated to explore alone. Australian visitors later connected him with Long Beach Hash, where he met his future wife, Alouette.

Together they traveled, hared, and hashed on all seven continents, including laying an improvised trail in Antarctica. Wild Bill recalls early Interhashes, meeting historic figures, managing Long Beach and Orange County activities, rafting trips, awards such as Trail of the Year, and the importance of club publications. His stories celebrate athletic adventure while insisting that hashing remains noncompetitive, adaptable, and grounded in the people who keep showing up.
