    3.34 Condom Man

    Condom Man began hashing in Mogadishu in 1987, when a party invitation led him to a small but enthusiastic expat kennel. Within months he had found his niche as Hash Music, improvising two-line songs about each offender brought into the circle. He later resumed hashing in Cairo in 1991, joining one of the era’s largest and most active kennels and becoming part of a community known for desert trails, Egyptian Nash Hashes and ambitious social events.

    His travels span Cyprus Interhash, Brussels, Kuala Lumpur, Tasmania and the memorable 1999 Pan Africa Hash at Victoria Falls, where elephants forced a trail diversion. Condom Man recounts hash stage acts, chaotic international circles and meeting his future wife, Look If You Like, during a London formal-dress trail before the trip to Africa. Born in Zambia and raised in Scotland, he also reflects on later hashing in Zambia and Tanzania. The conversation preserves stories from Cairo’s golden era and the origins of traditions such as the International Rehydration Hash.

    3.33 Compressed Fart

    Episode Summary

    Compressed Fart attended his first hash in Jeddah in 1997 after friends promised running, walking, hills and beer. His introduction included a small bucket of beer, most of which ended up over his head, followed by a rocky desert trail and a circle that immediately captured his imagination. Work prevented him from returning regularly, but hashing became a major part of his life after moving to Cairo, where he completed dozens of trails through wadis, desert terrain and even around the pyramids. His work with air compressors provided the inspiration for his hash name.

    After Cairo, Compressed Fart hashed in Bahrain before moving to Dubai. What began as a willingness to try being GM of Desert H3 for one year became more than eleven years in the position. He discusses the challenges of sustaining Dubai’s expat kennels, organizing InterGulf, navigating local restrictions and reviving circles through a broader repertoire of songs. He also recalls pandemic Zoom gatherings, changing weekends, shrinking pack sizes and the clandestine logistics sometimes needed to stage desert events in a rapidly changing city.

    3.32 Scuba Deuce

    Episode Summary

    Scuba Deuce needed three introductions before hashing finally took hold. His first trail was with Sigonella H3 in Sicily around 2012, followed by another encounter in Hawaii. It was only after moving to an isolated part of southern Maryland that he began hashing every week and realized he had found his people. A lifelong competitive runner and Navy officer, he welcomed the combination of unusual terrain, social running and an international community available almost anywhere military travel took him.

    After being told he could not be named until he laid a trail, Scuba Deuce quickly became a hare, event volunteer and RA with Smutty Crab and later Aloha H3. His name emerged from an unfortunate interaction between a dry suit and a questionable curry. He recounts COVID-era dead trails and Zoom circles in Hawaii, extensive travel hashing and organizing a Maryland campout that lost its venue only days before it began. Its success led to an even larger undertaking: hosting USA Nash Hash 2024 in St. Mary’s County, Maryland.

    Episode Summary

    Flab’s husband, Moonman, discovered hashing while working in Wichita and was convinced she would attend once and never return. He therefore arranged for her to be named on her first trail. Bird Brains chose “Flab,” an abbreviation with a much more colourful meaning, expecting her to hate it. Instead, she loved both the name and the freedom she found in hashing. Back in Toronto, she joined Hogtown and soon progressed from occasional runner to marathoner, hare, organizer and mismanagement regular.

    A planetary geologist by training, Flab brings an analytical eye to the practical business of sustaining a kennel. She recalls organizing a photographic walking trail for InterAmericas 2005 while pushing her ten-month-old child in a stroller, participating in TWAT’s inaugural trail and later serving as its GM for several years. She also discusses Toronto’s Pink Dress Run, charity fundraising, event mishaps and leadership succession. Flab argues that smaller kennels benefit when officers remain long enough to learn their jobs and deliberately train their replacements.

    Episode Summary

    Cougar entered hashing through her sister, Mrs. Robinson, co-haring her sister’s farewell trail with Toronto’s Hogtown H3 in 1999. Big Stones began in a very different fashion: after driving two hours from Big Stone Gap, Virginia, he found himself as the only member of the pack chasing a rollerblading hare around Knoxville. Grateful that anyone had attended, the tiny kennel named him on the spot. Hashing later gave him an immediate social network during short-term physical-therapy assignments across the United States.

    The couple trace their separate hashing lives through Toronto, Memphis, Virginia, Pennsylvania, western New York and numerous travel events before explaining how hashing eventually brought them together. Cougar discusses her years on Hogtown and TWAT mismanagement, helping preserve the women’s kennel and creating Toronto’s Pink Dress Run to benefit breast-cancer research. Big Stones recounts organizing campouts and the adventures—and occasional disasters—of hosting visiting hashers. Together they consider relationships, respectful circle culture, changing social standards and how their binational hashing life eventually led them to Asheville, North Carolina.

    Episode Summary

    MuthaTucka first encountered hashing as a student in New Zealand, although a cold, rainy suburban trail with wine and snacks did not immediately win him over. He returned to hashing in Wellington around 1988, joining Capital H3 and other local kennels before setting off on an extraordinary period of international travel following the 1992 Interhash in Thailand.

    Carrying little more than a backpack, a hash directory and a few thousand dollars, MuthaTucka travelled through Hong Kong and then spent roughly 18 months moving across India, Bangladesh, Nepal, Sri Lanka and Pakistan. He used hashes as points on his route, saved money by drinking only when he found a kennel and communicated by postcards long before widespread email. He recalls being “kidnapped” by hashers for unexpected weekends, finding isolated clubs through embassies and discovering that the real magic often lived in smaller local kennels rather than major events. The conversation continues through later travels, numerous countries and clubs, song traditions and even hashing connected with Antarctic assignments.

    P-Head attended Dayton’s third hash in July 1987 after seeing founder Little Tudor Jumper wearing unusual hash clothing at local road races. Initially attracted more to the deliberately deceptive trail than to the social side, he soon began producing Dayton’s printed Hash Trash and became increasingly involved in keeping the young kennel functioning. When participation declined and the founder moved away, the regulars put P-Head in charge.

    He remained Dayton’s GM for eight and a half years and was subsequently appointed “Tyrant for Life,” giving him permanent permission to offer opinions whether mismanagement asks for them or not. P-Head recalls the practical realities of running a kennel before email and websites, including printed directions, changing run days, beer logistics and early naming traditions. He also discusses Dayton’s longevity, memorable trails and trips, participation in RAGBRAI and the friendships built over more than 1,200 Dayton hashes.     Hazukashii returns to discuss his two great hashing pursuits: travelling the world and documenting its history. Since leaving behind his job, house and possessions, he has travelled through dozens of countries and hundreds of kennels. At the time of this interview, his records included hashing in 124 countries with more than 420 clubs—statistics he began tracking decades ago while teaching himself how to use spreadsheets.

    The central subject is the difference between popular hash mythology and the evidence preserved in early records. Hazukashii examines the people involved in the original Kuala Lumpur group, the influence of earlier paper-chase traditions, the interruption caused by the Second World War and the postwar spread of hashing. He discusses Gispert and the other early participants, challenges oversimplified versions of the founding story and explains why Singapore occupies an important place in H3’s development. The conversation offers a careful look at how hash history is researched, corrected and preserved before original sources and firsthand memories disappear.

    3.26 Porkless

    Episode Summary

    Porkless attended his first Dayton hash in 1999 after More Legs invited him to a running event without explaining very much about it. A conventional road runner accustomed to 5Ks and 10Ks, he needed time to adjust to stopping for beer and completing full-sized down-downs. He nevertheless embraced the hash completely, eventually accumulating more than 725 Dayton runs and becoming one of the kennel’s most consistent members.

    As Dayton’s longtime hare raiser and a former GM, Porkless explains how the kennel schedules trails, tracks participation and maintains continuity with a relatively small core group. He describes leading Dayton through COVID with independently completed trails, online circles and even a virtual trail through Paris. He also recounts being unexpectedly recruited to hare at EuroHash in Prague—and then being stranded there after testing positive for COVID. With more than 100 Dayton trails laid, Porkless discusses his love of live trails, creeks, tunnels, cemeteries and serious wooded shiggy, along with the extensive scouting required to make those adventures work.

    Episode Summary

    Hashing changed More Legs’ life almost immediately. Newly arrived in Columbia, South Carolina, in 1986, she found a tiny newspaper notice announcing the inaugural run of a local chapter of a worldwide running organization. She attended, fell in love with the hash and completed more than 50 consecutive trails. The new kennel followed Samurai traditions, including naming hashers after six runs; she became More Legs because she reportedly had more legs than most men knew what to do with.

    Her hashing journey later took her to Charleston, Heidelberg, Washington, D.C., St. Thomas and eventually back to Dayton. She helped establish kennels, served as GM in several places and has hashed in approximately 25 countries. More Legs shares stories from European Nash Hashes, Mount Vernon’s demanding live trails, founding a short-lived St. Thomas kennel and memorable international events. For her, the heart of hashing remains the trail: discovering unfamiliar cities, negotiating serious shiggy and keeping the pack challenged but together.
