Pipes once teased his father for hashing, then joined Perth’s notorious Hammersley Hash after moving to Australia in 1985. Over four decades, Pipes carried hashing through Asia, the Pacific, the United States, and a career involving frequent travel. He recounts clubs, Interhashes, injuries, medical emergencies, changing photography and communications, and the very different expectations of younger hashers. Now based in Texas, he offers a long view of how strong infrastructure, capable volunteers, and respect for local culture allow both kennels and major events to endure.
