Episode Summary

Grizzly began on Burnie Hash’s third run in Tasmania in 1978, aged eighteen and playing rugby as a prop forward. He was not a natural runner, but checks and false trails brought the faster pack back to him—and the rugby-style humor made the new club immediately familiar. He soon hared live trails and accumulated 750 Burnie runs before moving to Hobart.

His long Tasmanian perspective encompasses local gatherings, family hashing, trail craft, shirt and logo design, and major events including Hobart Interhash 2000 and Australian Nash Hash 2011. Grizzly explains the volunteer effort and local identity behind Tasmania’s celebrated Interhash, reflects on changes in drinking, names, communications, and red-dress runs, and describes why people and shared memories matter as much as destinations.
