Episode Summary

Chips began hashing in Suva, Fiji, in 1977. When she learned the existing club was men-only, she founded a ladies’ hash herself, then repeated that initiative in Wellington and later helped start hashes in Beijing, Port Nicholson, and Wellington’s biking community. Her name grew from her surname, Wood, paired with co-GM Haggis: “Haggis and Chips.”

She recalls tropical Suva trails, Cold War-era runs through Beijing hutongs, early circles without songs, homemade flour-marking devices, and the evolution from women-only clubs to mixed packs. Stories of family, washed-out trails, Rotorua Interhash 1994, and returning to Fiji in 2018 celebrate a pioneering hasher whose practical response to exclusion was simply to build the club she wanted.
