Episode Summary

Compressed Fart attended his first hash in Jeddah in 1997 after friends promised running, walking, hills and beer. His introduction included a small bucket of beer, most of which ended up over his head, followed by a rocky desert trail and a circle that immediately captured his imagination. Work prevented him from returning regularly, but hashing became a major part of his life after moving to Cairo, where he completed dozens of trails through wadis, desert terrain and even around the pyramids. His work with air compressors provided the inspiration for his hash name.

After Cairo, Compressed Fart hashed in Bahrain before moving to Dubai. What began as a willingness to try being GM of Desert H3 for one year became more than eleven years in the position. He discusses the challenges of sustaining Dubai’s expat kennels, organizing InterGulf, navigating local restrictions and reviving circles through a broader repertoire of songs. He also recalls pandemic Zoom gatherings, changing weekends, shrinking pack sizes and the clandestine logistics sometimes needed to stage desert events in a rapidly changing city.
